For the sake of clarity, I think Mr Daneshjoo should publish his degreess which (I am sure) could be verified by Imperial College and Queen Mary. Also, if he is now saying that the PhD is from Imperial College, what is the meaning of viva held in Iran?

I appreciate you writing to say so– but can you substantiate any of this? Can you account for the changes in Professor Daneshjoo’s resume and his long-held assertion that he’d received his advanced degrees from an institution that not only doesn’t exist but is also apparently located in Manchester, some four hours away from Imperial College London?

This is bizarre behaviour on the part of an academic. Tampering with one’s resume– in fact completely changing one’s credentials– is a serious misdeed and a poor example for the rest of Iran.

Kamran Daneshjoo completed his PhD from Imperial college in 1993, his brother Farhad completed his PhD at our University which is UNiversity of Westminster. He got his first degree from Queen mary College where I graduated from in 1975

Thanks for your reply… I’d come across UMIST and it was part of the reason why I concluded the first blog the way I did. A translation error, however careless, would have made for a more plausible excuse.

The revision to Imperial is outrageous and would seem to me an admission of guilt. But in contrast to the furor over Ali Kordan, there were instead 186 votes that suggested, false credentials or not, that Daneshjo could suitably lead Iran’s higher education system. Accountability for the actions of the former election committee chief might be sadly difficult to come by. -sw

“Manchester Imperial Institute of Science and Technology” is likely a garbling of the University of Manchester Institute for Science and Technology (UMIST), which no longer exists because it was merged into Manchester University a few years ago, but was previously effectively a separate university. See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Manchester_Institute_of_Science_and_Technology

As you say, it’s hard to see how one could confuse this with Imperial College London.
